MAIGARI REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO GOLDEN EAGLETS

President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Aminu Maigari, has stated that the present coaching crew of the Golden Eaglets would be accorded the necessary support to qualify the country for the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in UAE.

The Maigari-led NFF board’s election into office coincided with the country’s lost opportunity to qualify for the last African Under-17 Youth Championship held in Rwanda.

The Golden Eaglets; then under coach Monday Odigie, were edged out of the African tournament by Democratic Republic of Congo causing their failure to make it to the FIFA tournament hosted and won by Mexico recently.

But reflecting on his one year anniversary in office, the amiable president said the incoming coaching crew of the Golden Eaglets are already guaranteed maximum support as they set to rebuild the team from scratch.

The NFF were actually restrained from discharging their duties following the post election crisis that nearly tore Nigerian football to shreds.

The NFF would soon expectedly meet the new coaching staff of the national Under-17 team with a view to working out modalities for upcoming tournaments amongst other things.

Ugbade Pledges Cordial Relationship.

Assistant Coach of Nigeria's Golden Eaglets, Nduka Ugbade, says he is already looking forward to a harmonious working relationship with his colleagues on the Golden Eaglets’ beat.

While dismissing erroneous beliefs in a section of the media that the new coaching crew are strange bedfellows, Ugbade said hee was proud to be back with the team after 26 years he led Nigeria to win the first FIFA Under 17 World Cup.

“I’m really proud to be back with the Golden Eaglets 26 years after I led Nigeria to win her first major honour in football at the world level,” stated Ugbade, dismissing erroneous beliefs in a section of the media that the new coaching crew are strange bedfellows.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in August appointed Garba Manu to lead a strong cast including former African Footballer of the Year, Emmanuel Amuneke (assistant coach 1), former youth international, Emeka Amadi as goalkeepers’ coach and Ugbade and many have opined that they may not be able to work together.

“Contrary to what some people are saying, I think this is one of the best coaching crew to be assembled for the national Under-17 team because there is already a synergy amongst us and this would work effectively for the team,” Ugbade revealed.“The truth is that we are first and foremost friends and we have had these relationships long ago. For instance, I played together with Manu for El Kanemi Football Club of Maiduguri in the 1990s. Amuneke was also my colleague in the Super Eagles and I also played together with Amadi in the Flying Eagles.

“These are relationships built over the years and we are going to leverage on it to succeed in this assignment. I’m going to work harmoniously with the rest of the crew to fashion out a team Nigerians would be proud of,” he noted.

The coach said the present techical crew of the tem was one the best coaching crew to be assembled for the national Under-17 team because there is already a synergy amongst them and this would work effectively for the team.

Ugbade would be making a glorious return to the Golden Eaglets as a coach 26 years after leading the country to win the FIFA‘s cadet competition in China in 1985.

He later rose through the ranks to play for the Super Eagles and was recently announced as Second Assistant Coach of the Golden Eaglets.
